Nance comes to Mars Hill from Ashland University where she served as the top women’s basketball assistant under Sue Ramsey since June of 2004. During her stint at Ashland, Nance was involved in all aspects of the women’s basketball program. Her responsibilities included serving as the program’s recruiting coordinator, strength and conditioning coach, providing on-court instruction, developing scouting reports on opposing teams, individual workout development, summer camp coordinator and maintaining the team’s compliance records in accordance with eligibility rules set forth by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). While at Ashland, the Eagles won the GLIAC - South regular season title in both 2005 and 2006. The squad set a new mark for wins in the GLIAC in 2006 and was a NCAA post-season participant.

Nance worked at the NCAA before coaching at Ashland. She served as a staff assistant for Championships from September 2003 until June of 2004. Her duties in that position included coordinating and participating in ranking calls, selections and pre-championship planning. She was also responsible for distributing information to selected teams and host institutions, maintaining the championship websites, managing travel and committee meetings and coordinated the awards and gifts for committee members, participants and officials.

Nance began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Eastern Illinois University in August of 2001 where she earned her master’s degree in Athletic Administration in May of 2003. She then moved on to Franklin College in 2004 where she served as an assistant for one year. She was involved in every aspect of the program at Franklin. While at Franklin the team won the HCAC regular season and tournament titles and made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Nance’s volunteer activities have included conducting camps for underprivileged Girl Scouts, working at the Big 10 men’s and women’s basketball tournament and helping with media relations for the 2004 NCAA Men’s National Tournament.

Nance played four seasons for the Baldwin-Wallace College women’s basketball team. Her squad won three consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) championships as well as a pair of trips to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III tournament. She was a team captain and earned WBCA/Kodak First Team All-America honors as a senior in 2001. Nance, a native of Toledo, Ohio, earned a bachelors degree from Baldwin-Wallace in 2001 as a double major in Business and Psychology.

Athletic Director David Riggins stated, “We are excited over the addition of Jennifer to the Mars Hill Athletic Family. With her youth comes unlimited energy and enthusiasm. With her solid basketball background comes the ability to move our program forward. Jennifer’s potential as a head collegiate coach is unlimited.”

Nance stated, “I am honored that Coach Riggins has selected me to lead the women’s basketball program at Mars Hill. I welcome the opportunity and challenge as I begin my career as a head coach. As soon as I stepped on campus I knew Mars Hill was a quality institution comprised of dedicated people. I am anxious to carry on the high standard set by Coach Mattox in the classroom and on the court.”

Nance replaces Mandy Mattox who resigned her position on March 10, 2006. Mattox held the position for five years posting an 86-58 record.

Mars Hill College is a NCAA Division II institution and a member of the South Atlantic Conference. The league is comprised of schools in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
