BOONE, NC – Both teams returned to action on the 300 meter track at Appalachian State University on Friday night. The meet featured stiff competition from a total of 12 teams. Overall the Lions teams came away with several new school records.
For the Lions' women's team, freshman Gabby Walker (Chattanooga, TN) continued her assault on the record book with her third new mark in as many meets. This time she broke her own record with a time of 7.29 seconds in the 55 meter dash. Also setting a new record was Nadine Hayes (Winston-Salem, NC) in the 300 meter race with a time of 48.21 seconds.
For the men senior Dustin Whitlow (Ashburn, VA) turned in another outstanding performance in the mile. Dustin’s time of 4:23.83 took nearly two seconds of his previous school best set two weeks ago at Liberty University. In the throws Richard Clarke (Lookout Mountain, GA) established a new school record in the weight throw with a toss of almost 10 meters.
Overall the teams turned in a number of solid performances as the distance squads begin to get into racing shape. Next up is a return trip to the University of South Carolina of Saturday, February 23.
