DURHAM, NC –  Eight members of the Mars Hill Track & Field Teams competed at the Duke Invitational.  The Meet featured 93 teams and a number of world-class unattached runners with the total field topping 1,900 athletes.  Entry standards were extremely tough and the outstanding competition brought out the best in the Mars Hill runners.

First up was the men’s 1500 meter run featuring a trio of freshman Mars Hill runners.  Leading the way was Aaron Thomas (Seminole, FL).  Aaron’s time of 4:01.85 placed him 5th overall in the field of 63 runners.  Close behind were teammates Tom Carpenter (Medina, OH) with a time of 4:13.10 and Trey McCain (Leesville, SC) in 4:14.96.  Both Aaron and Trey had personal best times and Tom narrowly missed his that he recently set at the Disney Relays.

Next on the track was the women’s 1500 meter run and the four Lady Lions.  The teammates included senior Keely Hollahan (Charlotte, NC) and three talented freshmen, Hannah Washburn (Central, SC), Hannah Moore (Franklin, NC) and Anita Casey (Greer, SC).  All four ladies turned in personal best times, Keely at 5:20.78, Hannah Washburn at 5:22.11, Hannah Moore at 5:25.37 and Anita at 5:27.75.

Finishing up the evening for the Lions was senior Dustin Whitlow (Ashburn, VA) in the men’s 5,00ometer race.  Dustin turned in a strong performance with a time of 15:19.10 bettering last year’s time here by over 30 seconds.

Next up for the teams is a trip to Williamsburg, KY for the University of the Cumberlands Invitational.  The meet features some of the best D-II programs in the Southeast.  The meet will be on Saturday, April 12th.
