LYNCHBURG, VA – Both track and field teams turned in some strong performances in their first trip to the Liberty University Indoor facility. Times were fast all day on the new 200 meter surface. The meet featured over 20 teams and many elite unattached athletes.
Friday night the men started it off in the 5000 meter run. Senior Dustin Whitlow (Ashburn, VA) turned in a blazing time of 15:32.14 good enough for a second place overall finish. In addition freshman Trey McCain turned in a personal best of 16:33.19 earning him 10th place overall in the race. Next up was the 4 X 800 meter relay which saw the Mars Hill men turning in a new school record with a time of 8:24.48. The team consisted of Will Mikolajczak (Triangle, VA), Tom Carpenter (Medina, OH), Josh Corbin (Franklin, NC) and Aaron Thomas (Seminole, FL).
Saturday’s competition got off to a fast start with Mars Hill’s Gabby Walker (Chattanooga, TN) turning in a school record performance in the 60 meter dash. Her time of 8.06 bested the mark of former standout Beth Harms. In the men’s mile run Dustin Whitlow turned in another outstanding performance. His time of 4:25.77 broke his old Mars Hill record and earned him another second place overall finish.

Next up for the teams is the Appalachian State University Open Meet on Friday, February 8, in Boone, NC. The first event begins at 3:30 p.m.
