ROCK HILL, SC – Several Mars Hill athletes competed in the Winthrop Multi Event Invitational Meet. The two day event drew a strong field and great competition. Ashley McCarthy (Clearwater, FL) finished the 7 event Heptathlon in 7th place overall with a total score of 3,039 which bettered her previous best total by over 200 points. Along the way she recorded personal bests in the 100 meter hurdles, shot put and javelin. She also turned in a strong 200 meter performance in spite of the very windy conditions.
For the men Brad Nagel (King, NC) finished 3rd overall with a total of 4,603 points. He was closely followed by teammate Chris Hafner (Farmington, MO.) with 4,483 points competing unattached in his first College Decathlon. Overall the men completed 10 grueling events over the two days culminating with the 1500 meter run. Both of their performances were highlighted with huge personal best throws in the Javelin. For Brad it was a strong return after sitting out last Spring with a back injury.
