BREVARD, NC - The Brevard College women's tennis team got back on the winning track on Wednesday afternoon, as the Tornados defeated the Lions of Mars Hill 8-1 in the Tornados first home match in over three weeks.
The Tornados jumped out to a 3-0 lead, as BC swept all three doubles bouts from the Lions.
At the No. 1 doubles spot, the BC duo of Kimberly Dixon and Lindsay Shaeffer defeated Mars Hill's Kim Blythe and Patricia La Rovere, 8-4. The team of Kimberlee Cooper and Kayley Duval stormed past Mars Hill's team of Rachel Hall and Adriana Borda with an 8-3 win at the No. 2 doubles match, while at the No. 3 position, the tandem of Sara Douglas and Merek Slagle downed Karyn Devinney and Paoloa Aybar of Mars Hill, 8-4.
The Tornados did not stop there as Brevard went on to win five of the six singles contests to score the 8-1 victory and their first win over a South Atlantic Conference opponent on the year.
Freshman Lindsay Shaeffer defeated La Rovere of Mars Hill, 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 1 singles spot, while BC's Duval dropped Blythe of Mars Hill in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 position.
Not to be outdone, the Tornados Sara Douglas cruised past Devinney of the Lions at the No. 4 spot, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
At the No. 5 position, Cooper blew past Aybar 6-4, 6-0, while Brevard's Slagle cruised past Hall of Mars Hill in straight sets 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 6 singles slot.
