MARS HILL, NC - Frankie Armstrong (Creedmoor, NC) scored off a rebound at the 49:57 mark to lift the Lions over King College in women's soccer action at Meares Stadium Wednesday night. MHC improved to 3-3 overall while King fell to 2-2 on the year.
Maggie Lynskey scored the first goal in the match at the 22:06 mark off a rebound. The goal was assisted by Emma Wells. Abby Martin (Greer, SC) tied the contest a minute and a half before the intermission on a through ball sent from Armstrong. Four minutes into the second stanza, Armstrong recorded what would prove to be the match winner. Caity Murnahan (Bloomfield Hill, MI) assisted the final goal.
King out shot the Lions, 19-to-12. Claudia Cala (Hamilton, NJ) played all 90 minutes in goal for MHC and made nine saves. Karmin Helton also played the entire match in the net for King and made seven stops.
Mars Hill will play at USC Aiken on September 8. Game time is set for a 5 p.m. start.
