BOONE, N.C. - The Lions' cross country teams opened the 2008 campaign competing in the Covered Bridge Open hosted by Appalachian State University.
The men placed seventh in a field of 12 teams and the women placed ninth in a field of 11 squads. However, both of the Lions' harriers finished second among Division II opponents.
Joel Barnett (Greenville, S.C.) led MHC in 31st place with a time of 27:26 in the 8K race. Trey McCain (Leesville, S.C.) followed in 35th place with a time of 27:37.
The women finished ninth in a field of 11 teams but they also placed second among D-II schools in the 5K race. Anita Casey (Greer, SC) led MHC in 59th place with a time of 21:21. Angela Woodward (Gahanna, OH) followed in 63rd place finishing the event in 21:39.
MHC will compete in the Eye Opener Invitational held in Spartanburg, S.C. on September 6. The first race will begin at 8 a.m.
