WINGATE, N.C. - For the second consecutive week, Mars Hill College swept all three Deep South Conference Player of the Week awards, league officials announced Monday. The Lions went 2-0 on the week, including a victory over No. 10 Belmont Abbey.
Mars Hill junior attack Danny Farmer (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) is the Offensive Player of the Week. Senior goalkeeper Nick Sigona (Auburn, N.Y.) is the Defensive Player of the Week while freshman defender Chris Cudmore (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) was selected Freshman of the Week.
Farmer had the game winner in overtime in Mars Hill’s 15-14 win over Seton Hill. He racked up eight goals and one assist against Seton Hill. The 2008 all-conference selection had two goals and three assists as the Lions topped No. 10-ranked Belmont Abbey.
Sigona had 14 saves while allowing only six goals against Belmont Abbey for a 70% save percentage. The 2008 all-conference performer was a big reason why Belmont Abbey was only three-for-14 on its man-up opportunities. Sigona also collected eight ground balls. He racked up 15 saves, including one in overtime, in Mars Hill’s 15-14 win over Seton Hill.
In Mars Hill’s win over Belmont Abbey, Cudmore held his attacker without a point. He also recorded four ground balls and caused three turnovers. He was part of the man-down unit that killed 11 of 14 penalties. Cudmore collected one ground ball and caused two turnovers in the victory over Seton Hill.
Mars Hill will travel to Catawba on Saturday. The game will start at 2 p.m.
