LAKELAND, Fla. - Mars Hill's lacrosse team snapped a two-game skid with a 9-4 win over Florida Southern College Saturday afternoon in Bryant Stadium. MHC improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Deep South Conference. FSC fell to 4-4 on the year and 1-2 in the DSC.
The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and then out scored the Moccasins 2-0 in the second frame to take a 5-0 advantage into the locker room at the intermission.
The Lions stayed hot in the third stanza out scoring FSC 4-1 to lead 9-1 heading into the final period. FSC scored three goals in the last quarter to make the final tally, 9-4 in favor of the visitors.
MHC out shot FSC, 43-27, won the ground ball battle, 41-36 and took 10-17 face-offs. Both teams were 0-2 in extra man opportunities.
David Hodgins (Windor, Ontario, Canada) led MHC with three goals and a pair of assists. Eric Benesch (Bloomingdale, Ontario, Canada) followed with two goals and three assists. Danny Farmer (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) added a goal and a assist while brother Tyler scored twice. Nick Sigona (Auburn, N.Y.) played 45 minutes in goal for MHC and made three saves. Spencer Stobbe (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) played the last quarter and made six saves.
Mars Hill will host DSC rival St. Leo on March 27. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
