MARS HILL, N.C. - Mars Hill senior forward P.J. Gore recently joined elite company. Gore's career-high 34 points in the win over Wingate on Wednesday put him over 1,000 career points scored. He becomes only the 25th player in school history to reach the 1,000 point plateau. The North Myrtle Beach, S.C., native now has scored 1,008 points in his three years wearing the blue and gold.
Gore has scored a team-high 423 points this season in 24 games, an average of 17.6 points per game. He ranks fifth in the conference in scoring per game.
Just ahead of Gore on the school's all-time scoring list are Jim Medford (1,016 points), Tony Davison (1,026 points), and Stanley Wheless (1,026 points).
Earlier this season against Brevard, fellow teammate Stoney Polite (Morganton, N.C.) surpassed the 1,000 point milestone. Polite now has scored 1,083 points.
The Lions will host North Greenville Saturday on Senior Day. Tip-time is set for 2 p.m.
