ETOWAH, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's golf team sits in sixth place after the opening day of the 2009 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship Monday at the Etowah Valley Country Club and Golf Resort. The team of five players fired a score of 603.
Josh Spalding (Weaverville, N.C.), who fired a two-under par (142), is in second place overall. Chad Skinner (Ottawa, Canada) is tied for tenth overall with an opening day score of 147.
The Carson-Newman Eagles carded a 36-hole tally of 586 and lead by one shot after the opening day. The Eagles fired back-to-back rounds of 293.
The final round of the 54-hole championship will be held Tuesday morning at the par 72, 6,796-yard layout.
