Ashley HarberTIGERVILLE, S.C. – Mars Hill split a doubleheader with North Greenville Saturday afternoon. The Lions lost the first game 2-0 but rebounded with a win in the second game 6-1. The Lions are now 9-9. The Crusaders are 6-10.

In the first game, North Greenville did all of its scoring in the bottom of the fifth inning. Lindsey Eargle (Newberry, S.C.) singled, and Lauren Vick (Campobello, S.C.) and Bridget Watson (Wellford, S.C.) scored to put the Crusaders up 2-0.

Kristyn Smith (Walhalla, S.C.), now 4-4, picked up the win for North Greenville in game one. She pitched a complete game and allowed no runs.

Paige Brantley (Raleigh, N.C.), now 2-2, dropped game one for Mars Hill. She threw six complete innings and allowed two runs.

North Greenville scored first in game two in the bottom of the second inning. Watson singled which scored Taylor Roof (Chester, S.C.) to give the Crusaders a 1-0 advantage.

Mars Hill came back with four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Hayley Brannon (Spartanburg, S.C.) scored on a groundout by Ashley Seawell (Asheboro, N.C.) to tie the game. Ashley Harber (Goose Creek, S.C.) then untied the game in the next at-bat with a three-run bomb over the center field fence to give the Lions a commanding 4-1 lead.

Mars Hill added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. Rebekah Huff (Mars Hill, N.C.) scored on a Seawell groundout to make the score 5-1 in favor of the Lions. Ashley Angell (Winston-Salem, N.C.) scored on the next play when Harber reached base on an error by Hope Brewer (Liberty, S.C.).

Tara WestTara West (Urbana, Ohio), now 5-5, picked up the win for Mars Hill in game two. She pitched a complete game and allowed only one run.

Roof, now 2-6, dropped game two for the Crusaders. She allowed six runs in a complete game performance.

Mars Hill will host Anderson for a doubleheader on March 11. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
