BLACKSBURG, Va. – Members of the Mars Hill College Track Team competed at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet Saturday afternoon. The prestigious meet features top athletes from around the country competing for NCAA National Championship qualifying standards.
Three school records fell during the afternoon of action led by Frankie Waters (Brevard, N.C.) performance in the 60 Meter Hurdles. Waters ran a school-record time of 8.20 seconds in the preliminary round to qualify him into the semifinals. Waters equaled that mark in the semifinals and finished 11th.
Waters followed that performance with a school record run in the 60 Meter Dash. Waters narrowly missed qualifying for the semifinals with a time of 7.07 seconds. Teammate Tyrea Allen (Murphy, N.C.) finished close behind in 7.19 seconds.
Allen completed his day with an impressive run in the 200 Meter Dash. Allen crushed the old school record en route to his time of 22.80 seconds. His run placed him 14th of 27 athletes in the elite field.
Josh Corbin (Franklin, N.C.) capped off the day with a gutsy run in the 3000 Meter Race. Corbin established a new personal best with his time of 9:16.24.
The Lions will return to action March 20-21 at the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Conway, S.C.
