MARS HILL, N.C. – Mars Hill College sophomore Frankie Waters (Brevard, N.C.) has qualified for the NCAA Division II National Track and Field Championships to be held May 21-23, at Angelo State University. Waters qualified for the meet when he ran a time of 14.54 seconds in the 110 meter high hurdles on May 5 at the University of Tennessee. This time currently ranks him 13th nationally in NCAA Division II.
Waters is the first Mars Hill College athlete to compete at the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships, an honor that his coach, Mike Owens, certainly feels he deserves. “Frankie has worked extremely hard for this opportunity. There is no doubt that he will do an amazing job representing our institution and community. “
Owens also feels that Waters could surprise some people at the meet. “Frankie has had some great races this season, but we are confident he can go faster. If he gets a clean run, there is no doubt that he will turn some heads.”
Angelo State University is located in San Angelo, TX. Waters will run in the semifinal heats on Friday, May 22. The top eight finishers in the semifinal heats will qualify for the finals on Saturday, May 23.
