MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' women's soccer team defeated SAC rival Brevard College, 1-0, Friday night at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Lions improved to 7-7-3 overall and 1-5 in the SAC. BC fell to 5-10 on the season and 0-6 in the league.
Alicia Blaha (Rapid City, SD) passed the ball to Misha Price (Cary, N.C.) who found the back of the net from 20 yards out to notch the match winning goal at the 9:44 mark. The Lions' defense held on for the next 80 minutes for the win.
MHC out shot the Tornados, 14-7 while corner kicks were knotted at 1-all. Becca Sellars (Loveland, Ohio) played the entire match in the net for the Lions and made three saves. Sydney Douglas (Houston, Tex.) also played 90 minutes in goal for BC and made six saves.
Before the match, MHC recognized ther five senior players. Blaha, Lindsey Collins (Apopka, Fla.), Stefanie Hampton (Knoxville, Tenn.), Courtney King (Placentia, Calif.) and Alex Turner (Knoxville, Tenn.) are the Lions' 2008 senior players.
MHC will host Erskine College on October 22. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Brevard will host Emmanual College on October 18 at 2 p.m.
