MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' women's soccer team fell to Georgia College and State University, 3-0 Friday night at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 4-3-3 on the year while the Bobcats improved to 5-1-1 on the season.
Daria Owen scored the first goal of the match at the 30:07 mark finding the back of the net from 40 yards out. Twelve minutes later Megan McAlpin scored off a long pass from Morgan Cobb. GCSU would take a 2-0 advantage into the locker room at the intermission.
Kayla Emerson ended the scoring in the 67th minute off a rebound. GCSU out shot the Lions, 17-8 and edged MHC in corner kicks, 5-1.
Mary Rob Plunkett played all 90 minutes in goal for GCSU and made three saves. Becca Sellars (Loveland, Ohio) also played the entire match in the net for MHC and made seven saves.
MHC returns to action on September 28. The Lions will play at SAC rival Catawba College. The match will start at 3 p.m.
