MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' women's soccer team snapped a three-game skid by defeating Lander University, 2-0, Wednesday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. MHC improved to 6-7-3 on the season while the Bearcats fell to 6-5 on the year.
Abby Martin (Greer, S.C.) scored on a breakaway at the 59:07 mark to put the first goal on the board. The goal was unassisted. Frankie Armstrong (Creed moor, N.C.) added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute on a through ball from Patrice Superville (Chaguanas, Trinidad).
MHC out shot Lander, 13-8 while the Bearcats edged the Lions in corner kicks, 4-2. Becca Sellars (Loveland, Ohio) played all 90 minutes in goal for MHC and made four saves. Rachel Baggett also played the entire match in the net for Lander and made three stops.
Mars Hill will return to action on October 17 when they host SAC rival Brevard College. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
