Britany DownsMARS HILL, N.C. - Danielle Tanner (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Tusculum Pioneers to a 4-1 victory over Mars Hill's women's soccer team Tuesday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Lions fell to 5-6-3 overall and 0-4 in the SAC while Tusculum improved to 6-5-1 on the season and 3-2 in the league.

Kelly Barron (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored the first goal of the contest 19 seconds into the match off a deflection. The teams carried that score into the locker room at the intermission.

Amber Bradley (Kent, Wash.) then put the Pioneers up 2-0 at the 57:18 mark on a cross from Tanner. Brittany Downs (Orlando, Fla.) scored the Lions' only goal in the 59th minute off a direct kick. Michelle Meade (Greeneville, Tenn.) found Tanner on a through ball at the 61:46 mark to give the Pioneers a 3-1 advantage and then Tanner ended the scoring in the 77th minute on a cross from Bradley.

The Pioneers out shot the Lions, 25-11 and edged MHC in corner kicks, 2-1. Vanessa Fyffe (Bellbrooke, Ohio) played all 90 minutes in goal for Tusculum and made five saves. Becca Sellars (Loveland, Ohio) also played the entire match in the net for MHC and made nine stops.

The Lions will host Wingate University on October 10 at 7 p.m. Tusculum will play at Pfeiffer University on October 10 at 4 p.m.
