Region Rankings
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Mars Hill football team, currently 6-3 overall and 6-2 against Division II competition, remained in fifth place in the fifth release of regional rankings.
Mars Hill was upset at Tusculum this past Saturday by a score of 38-28. In the game, Jonas Randolph (Daleville, Ala.) broke the Mars Hill single-season rushing record and currently has 1,618 rushing yards. Randolph needs 250 rushing yards to break Kenneth Tyson's South Atlantic Conference single-season rushing record of 1,867 yards set in 1987. This past Saturday, Randolph also established new Mars Hill records for most rushing touchdowns in a single season (16) and most all-purpose touchdowns in a single season (16).
Carson-Newman remains in second place in the Super Region II standings. Wingate remains ninth this week. North Alabama is still a top of the Super Region II poll.
The top six teams from each region at the end of the regular season make the NCAA playoffs. Mars Hill has not competed in the postseason since 1980.
The Lions will host Wingate on Senior Day this Saturday to conclude the regular season. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
