MARS HILL, N.C. - The Brevard volleyball team defeated Mars Hill in five games on Senior Night inside Stanford Arena. The Tornadoes won by scores of 20-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21 and 15-11.
Brevard improves to 14-14 overall, 3-13 in the South Atlantic Conference and advances to the conference tournament as the eighth seed. The Lions conclude the season at 11-16 overall and 2-14 in the league.
Before the game, seniors Mehgen Flynn (Niles, Mich.), Kelly Koziel (New Carlisle, Ind.), student athletic trainer Patricia La Rovere (Caracas, Venezuela) and Danielle Mason (Westerville, Ohio) were honored for their dedication to Mars Hill athletics during their time at Mars Hill.
Chelsea Larsen (Greer, S.C.) led the Tornados with 14 kills in the contest and achieved the double-double with 18 digs. Brooke Seaman (Spring Hill, Fla.) added 13 kills to the attack and had a huge game at the net with eight blocks.
Rebecca Schoonover (Palm City, Fla.) led the Tornados on defense with 37 digs, while Jordei Osby (Goldsboro, N.C.) had nine blocks on the evening, including the game-winner in the fifth set.
Mars Hill was led by Mason, Evie Tafunai (Edwardsburg, Mich.) and Laura Ann Huskey (West Henderson, N.C.) who each had 10 kills. Tafunai led the team with 25 digs, while Huskey had 16 digs.
Sarah Paquette (Swannanoa, N.C.) had a double-double with 22 assists and 12 digs. Kelsi Flora (Mishawaka, Ind.) netted 20 digs. Kelly Koziel (New Carlisle, Ind.) had 14 digs. Becca Smith (Candler, N.C.) added 14 assists.
