Boxscore | "Dig for Cancer" Photos

Laura Ann HuskeyMARS HILL, N.C. - On a night that raised money for cancer research, a packed crowd inside Stanford Arena was treated to a volleyball classic. Lenoir-Rhyne won a thrilling volleyball match over Mars Hill in five games by scores of 25-16, 25-22, 15-25, 24-26 and 15-7.

The Bears improve to 14-7 overall and 2-4 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Lions fall to 8-8 overall and 1-6 in the league.

Lindsey Cantu (Orlando, Fla.) posted a double-double for Lenoir-Rhyne with 19 kills and 19 digs. Kassi Henry (Denver, N.C.) recorded 12 kills. Along with Cantu, three other Bear players posted double-digit totals in digs: Marrissa Church (Statesville, N.C.) with 34, Jordan Ledford (Newton, N.C.) with 21 and Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) with 18. Lutz also netted 38 assists.

Becca SmithLaura Ann Huskey (West Henderson, N.C.) recorded a double-double for Mars Hill with 21 kills and 19 digs. Evie Tafunai (Edwardsburg, Mich.) and Traci Teague (Ramseur, N.C.) had 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Like Lenoir-Rhyne, the Lions also had four players with double-digit dig totals: Kelsi Flora (Mishawaka, Ind.) with 25, Huskey with 19 and Becca Smith (Candler, N.C.) and Rachel Rheinheimer (Elkhart, Ind.) each with 11. Smith also dished out 29 assists from her setter position, while Sarah Paquette (Swannanoa, N.C.) had 14 assists.

Mars Hill had 16 service errors compared to only three for Lenoir-Rhyne.

The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), which organized the "Dig for Cancer" promotion, raised $88 for the Kay Yow Cancer Foundation.

The Lions will travel to Brevard on Friday night. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
