MONTREAT, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team broke a six-game losing streak on Tuesday night inside McAllister Gym and defeated Montreat in four games. The Lions won by scores of 25-17, 25-16, 23-25 and 25-16.
Mars Hill improves to 10-14 overall. Montreat falls to 23-15.
Becca Smith (Candler, N.C.) posted a double-double for the Lions with 19 assists and 11 digs. Evie Tafunai (Edwardsburg, Mich.) recorded 13 kills. Danielle Mason (Westerville, Ohio) and Traci Teague (Ramseur, N.C.) each had 10 kills. Kelly Koziel (New Carlisle, Ind.) posted 24 digs. Laura Ann Huskey (West Henderson, N.C.) followed up with 13 digs. Sarah Paquette (Swannanoa, N.C.) dished out 20 assists.
Alyssa Kaufman (Kaukauna, Wis.) netted a double-double for the Cavaliers with 16 kills and 16 digs. Ellen Goodman (Newfane, N.Y.) also had a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. Goodman recorded five service aces. Natalie Nieman (Charlotte, N.C.) and Lyndsey Wall (Weddington, N.C.) each knocked out 20 assists.
The Lions will travel to Milligan on Saturday. The match will begin at 2 p.m.
