MARS HILL, N.C. - The Newberry volleyball team improved to 16-11 overall and 6-6 in the South Atlantic Conference with a four-game winner over Mars Hill which drops to 9-13 overall and 2-11 in the league. Newberry defeated Mars Hill by scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-19 and 25-21.
Kara Harris (11 kills, 15 digs), from Grandview, Texas, and Kember Litchie (10 kills, 20 digs), from Amarillo, Texas, each posted a double-double for Newberry. Fernanda Frey (Sao Paulo, Brazil) recorded 14 kills. Brianna Blakely (Houston, Texas) led the defensive attack with 25 digs. Lindsey Hollingsworth (Charleston, S.C.) had 11 digs. Blair Browning (New Lexington, Ohio) dished out 37 assists.
Sarah Paquette (Swannanoa, N.C.) posted a double-double with 36 assists and 13 digs. Traci Teague (Ramseur, N.C.) posted 12 kills for the Lions. Along with Paquette, Kelsi Flora (23 digs), from Mishawaka, Ind., Laura Ann Huskey (18 digs), a native of West Henderson, N.C., and Rachel Rheinheimer (14 digs), who hails from Elkhart, Ind., all had double-digit dig totals.
Mars Hill will host Carson-Newman on Tuesday night. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m.
