ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 season opening victory over Virginia State Friday night in its first game of the Anderson Tournament. The Lions won the three sets by scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-11. Mars Hill improves to 1-0 on the season, while Virginia State drops to 0-1.
Evie Tafunai (Edwardsburg, Mich.) led the Mars Hill offensive attack with 11 kills. Laura Ann Huskey (West Henderson, N.C.) followed her with eight kills and also had a team-high five aces.
Defensively, Kelsci Flora (Mishawaka, Ind.) posted 16 digs. Traci Teague (Ramseur, N.C.) led the team with three blocks.
Mars Hill continues play in the Anderson Tournament on Saturday. The Lions will face North Greenville at 12 p.m. and West Alabama at 4 p.m.
