MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team lost to Anderson University, 2-1 Tuesday night at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Lions fell to 2-13-1 overall while the Trojans improved to 5-8 on the season.
Ashley Cotton scored both of Anderson's goals in the contest. Her first came at the 39:56 mark off a through ball sent by Larissa Fedorowich. That was all the scoring in the first frame. MHC out shot the Trojans 13-3 in the first half.
Cotton notched the game winner in the 68th minute from 35 yards out. Abby Martin (Greer, S.C.) scored the Lions' goal on a breakaway at the 89:27 mark.
MHC out shot Anderson 20-5 and edged the Trojans in corner kicks, 3-1. Chelsea Parker (Richmond, Va.) played the entire match in goal for the Lions. Alyssa Stephens also played the entire contest in the net and made seven saves.
Mars Hill will host Lenoir-Rhyne University on Friday October 23. It will be Senior Night for the Lions. The game will begin at 5 p.m.
