MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team lost to Lenoir-Rhyne on Senior Night at Meares Stadium by a score of 4-1. The Bears improve to 12-6 overall and 3-4 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Lions fall to 2-14-1 overall and 0-6-1 in the league.
Before the game, Lucy Adkins (Hopkinsville, Ky.), Amy Brock (Woodbridge, Va.), Garrett Patton (Woodruff, S.C.), Patrice Superville (Chaguanas, Trinidad) and Austen Ward (Weaverville, N.C.) were recognized for their hard work and dedication over their Mars Hill careers.
Catherine Hauck (Lake Mary, Fla.) got Lenoir-Rhyne on the board in the 13th minute for a 1-0 lead. She deflected a Laura Linehan (San Diego, Calif.) pass past Chelsea Parker (Richmond, Va.).
The Lions answered two minutes later. Caity Murnahan Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) took an Abby Martin (Greer, S.C.) cross and beat Katelyn Burwell (Carthage, N.C.) to tie the game.
Elizabeth Hawes (Valdese, N.C.) gave the Bears a go-ahead goal in the 30th minute. Her header off a cross from Shannon Agnew (Alpharetta, Ga.) proved to be the game-winner.
Lenoir-Rhyne added insurance goals in the 31st and 34th minutes. In the 31st minute, Linehan took a cross from Hauck and put the ball in the net to give the Bears a 3-1 advantage. The scoring ended in the 34th minute when Hawes scored her second goal of the night off an assist from Kaelia Frazier (Cedar Falls, Iowa).
Lenoir-Rhyne outshot Mars Hill 23-9 in the game.
Mars Hill will travel to Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday in the final game of the regular season. The game will begin at 3 p.m.
