MARS HILL, N.C. - Michaela Peach scored two goals to lead Newberry College past Mars Hill in women's soccer action in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium Wednesday night. Newberry improved to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the South Atlantic Conference while the Lions fell to 0-7 on the season and 0-1 in the league.
Newberry's Michaela Peach (Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, England) scored the first goal in the match at the 3:36 mark on a header from a free kick by Katie Sas (Columbia, S.C.). Taryn Bristol (Charlotte, N.C.) gave Newberry a 2-0 lead in the 35th minute when she found the back of the net from 15 yards out. The teams carried that score into the locker room at the intermission.
Peach scored her second goal of the contest at the 54:11 mark. The score came on a shot from 35 yards out.
Newberry out shot the Lions, 13-11 and edged MHC in corner kicks, 7-2. Chelsea Parker (Richmond, Va.) played the entire match in the net for MHC and made two saves. Emily Rhoades (Buckley, Wash.) also played the entire contest in goal for Newberry and made six saves.
Mars Hill will play at USC Aiken on Saturday night. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
