MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions women's soccer team lost to Queens University of Charlotte Sunday afternoon in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium by a score of 3-1. MHC fell to 0-5 on the season while the Royals improved to 1-3 on the year.
Kristen Wright gave Queens a 1-0 lead at the 12:34 mark when she found the back of the net from 20 yards out. The goal was unassisted. The Royals took a 2-0 advantage in the 26th minute when Wright scored again on a header off a corner kick. The ball was sent in by Katherine Johnson.
Amy Brock (Woodbridge, Va.) brought the Lions within one goal of the Royals when she scored on a cross from Abby Martin (Greer, S.C.). Queens held a 2-1 advantage heading into the locker room at halftime.
Queens wasted little time scoring in the second frame. Amanda Wright scored on a breakaway thirty seconds into the final period. Johnson recorded her second assist of the game on this score. That would later prove to be all the offense the match would see.
MHC will play at King College on September 9. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
