Caity MurnahanAIKEN, S.C. - Caity Murnahan (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) converted a penalty kick with 66:36 on the clock to propel Mars Hill past USC Aiken 2-1 Saturday evening at the Pacer Pit. The Lions improved to 1-7 on the year while USC Aiken fell to 2-4 on the season.

Amy Brock (Woodbridge, Va.) put MHC on the board at the 34:40 mark when she hit the back of the net on a cross. The Lions maintained that advantage the remainder of the first half.

After Murnahan's match winner, Alie Brady brought the Pacers within one goal of MHC in the 84th minute when she scored on a long shot from 40 yards out. The Lions' defense held strong down the stretch to pick up their first win of the season.

USC Aiken out shot the Lions 18-14 and edged MHC in corner kicks, 2-1. Chelsea Parker (Richmond, Va.) played the first 84:12 in goal for MHC and made five saves. Kristin Westerhorstmann (Cary, N.C.) played the final 5:48 in the net and made one stop. Nicole Westphal played all 90 minute in goal for the Pacers and made six saves.

Mars Hill will host Limestone College on September 23. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
