Sean WoodsSean Woods , Head Coach
Coach Woods recently finished up his third season at helm of the Mars Hill Lacrosse Program. The 2009 campaign saw Mars Hill achieve its most successful season in school history. They captured their first Regular Season Conference Championship with an undefeated conference record. They also achieved a school record 11 wins on their way to their second consecutive appearance in the Conference Tournament Championship. Coach Woods was recognized as the Deep South Conference Coach of the Year in 2009. This was the second time he was awarded this honor in just three seasons as head coach. Woods coached 7 All-Conference Players, Conference Freshman of the Year and Conference Player of the Year in 2009.

In 2008 the Lions captured their first Deep South Conference Tournament Championship in its 10th season of competition. Mars Hill’s offense finished 4th nationally, scoring 13.06 goals a game. They also finished 2nd in the nation in both man-up offense, with a 49% conversion rate and total goals scored, with 222. Woods coached 9 All-Conference players and National North South All-Star Selection Colbe Klein in 2008.

In 2007 the Deep South Conference recognized Coach Woods and achievements by voting him Coach of the Year for his inaugural season as Head Coach. Mars Hill was also the NCAA Division II Statistical Leader in Man-Up Offense. MHC also finished second in the country in Man-Down Defense and finished with a top 5 ranking in scoring offense.

Coach Woods came to Mars Hill after a three year stint at Division III power Washington College (Chestertown, MD) where he served as the Top Assistant Coach, Offensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator. During his three seasons at Washington, the Shoremen went 41–13 making a Quarterfinal appearance in 2006 and a Final Four run in 2004.

Starting his coaching career in Providence, RI, Coach Woods spent two seasons with the Brown University Bears. As an Assistant he served as an offensive and goalie coach, as well as assisting with the special teams. Woods graduated from Hartwick College (Oneonta, NY) in 2001. While at Hartwick he was a four-year letterman and won the team’s Coaches Award his senior year. Coach Woods resides in Mars Hill, NC.

Jeffrey RobertsJeffrey Roberts, Assistant Coach

Jeffrey Roberts comes to Mars Hill College from Denver, Colorado where he was serving as the Head Lacrosse coach at Arapahoe High School a perennial powerhouse in Colorado High School lacrosse.  Under his direction the Arapahoe Lacrosse program had many successes including a Semifinal and Quarterfinal appearance in the State Tournament and finished with a 28-8 record over 2 years.

Roberts is no stranger to collegiate athletics, he served as a collegiate coach for over 13 years. The last position he held was at the University of Vermont where he served as the top Assistant and offensive and recruiting coordinator. While in Burlington he directed an offense that would rank 20th nationally in Division I, and produce players that would rank 7th nationally in assists per game, and player that ranked 19th nationally in points per game.  His other Division I experience was at Dartmouth College a member of the Ivy League. While at Dartmouth College he served as Assistant Offensive Coordinator and coached several all Ivy League and All-America players.

Before moving to the Division I ranks Roberts honed his skills at Mercyhurst College a Division II institution. From 1999 to 2003 he served as the top Assistant and directed the Lakers offense to many team accolades. While at Mercyhurst College the lacrosse team took huge steps forward and reached their first trip to the Division II Semifinals.

He started into collegiate coaching at Skidmore College in the spring of 1995 after graduating from Springfield College in the fall of 1994.  After Skidmore he served at Colorado College and at Drew University as an assistant before moving on to Mercyhurst College.
