Jennifer Nance, Head Coach
Jennifer
Nance is beginning her third season as the new head
women’s basketball coach at
Mars Hill College. Her record at MHC is 29-27.
Nance comes to Mars Hill from
Ashland University where she served
as the top women’s basketball
assistant under Sue Ramsey since
June of 2004. During her stint at
Ashland, Nance was involved in all
aspects of the women’s basketball
program. Her responsibilities included
serving as the program’s recruiting
coordinator, strength and conditioning
coach, providing on-court instruction,
developing scouting reports on opposing
teams, individual workout development,
summer camp coordinator and maintaining
the team’s compliance records
in accordance with eligibility rules
set forth by the National Collegiate
Athletic Association (NCAA). While
at Ashland, the Eagles won the GLIAC
- South regular season title in
both 2005 and 2006. The squad set
a new mark for wins in the GLIAC
in 2006 and was a NCAA post-season
participant.
Nance worked at the NCAA before
coaching at Ashland. She served
as a staff assistant for Championships
from September 2003 until June of
2004. Her duties in that position
included coordinating and participating
in ranking calls, selections and
pre-championship planning. She was
also responsible for distributing
information to selected teams and
host institutions, maintaining the
championship websites, managing
travel and committee meetings and
coordinated the awards and gifts
for committee members, participants
and officials.
Nance began her coaching career
as a graduate assistant at Eastern
Illinois University in August of
2001 where she earned her master’s
degree in Athletic Administration
in May of 2003. She then moved on
to Franklin College in 2004 where
she served as an assistant for one
year. She was involved in every
aspect of the program at Franklin.
While at Franklin the team won the
HCAC regular season and tournament
titles and made an appearance in
the NCAA Tournament.
Nance’s volunteer activities
have included conducting camps for
underprivileged Girl Scouts, working
at the Big 10 men’s and women’s
basketball tournament and helping
with media relations for the 2004
NCAA Men’s National Tournament.
Nance played four seasons for
the Baldwin-Wallace College women’s
basketball team. Her squad won three
consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference
(OAC) championships as well as a
pair of trips to the Elite Eight
of the NCAA Division III tournament.
She was a team captain and earned
WBCA/Kodak First Team All-America
honors as a senior in 2001. Nance,
a native of Toledo, Ohio, earned
a bachelors degree from Baldwin-Wallace
in 2001 as a double major in Business
and Psychology.

her youth comes unlimited energy
and enthusiasm. With her solid basketball
background comes the ability to
move our program forward. Jennifer’s
potential as a head collegiate coach
is unlimited.”
Nance stated, “I am honored
that Coach Riggins has selected
me to lead the women’s basketball
program at Mars Hill. I welcome
the opportunity and challenge as
I begin my career as a head coach.
As soon as I stepped on campus I
knew Mars Hill was a quality institution
comprised of dedicated people. I
am anxious to carry on the high
standard set by Coach Mattox in
the classroom and on the court.”
